Last Hunting Trip/Sept 2011

As you can see, we are really out having fun, and if I see a moose to take home, great.  If not, well we are doing what we love.  So we took our last trip up Chena Hot Springs Road, the moose hunting season was open just one more week.  We parked along a stretch of the river, and walked up a trail to wait it out.  Hunting is like fishing.....sitting quiet for long periods of time......

I took my chair, my rifle, my handgun, a mug of hot tea, a book, and my moose call into the woods to wait. I used my moose call, and I heard a bull crashing around in the woods, but I couldn't convince him to come across the swamp to me.  I needed him to come across the pond to me, as I can't lift a moose hindquarter and carry it very far.

I don't have any food with me, because there had been 2 grizzlies, reported in the area, who had approached humans, and I didn't want to have anything with me that would attract them.  I even try to look like a moose.....
No go...
So after sitting for a day, I finally give up, and trudge back to the camper.
Sitting next to the river, have a glass of wine, some shrimp, and watch the sunset.

The end of another successful trip, no moose to bring home, but lots of enjoyment of the area I live in.

For next fall, I have applied for additional early hunting permits, so who knows, it may be my lucky year.
